Summary

The Airbus PPU is a power processing unit designed to provide power conditioning and control for the Ion Thrusters and the Xenon Flow Assembly (XFA), with radiation qualified for low earth orbit (LEO) missions. Its key features include generating and monitoring voltages and currents to the electric propulsion system (EPS); performing start-up, nominal operation and shut down sequences and responding to thrust commands. It also provides the command to all thruster functions and monitors all relevant propulsion system parameters through telemetry and telecommand. The PPU is specially designed for earth observation and science missions. It delivers low voltage supplies to power the neutraliser and acceleration grid as well as ensures isolation between the high voltage electronics, the low voltage electronics and between the 11 independent sources that supply the thrusters. The product weighs 17.5 kgs and has a military standard (MIL-STD-1553) interface.
