The Li-ion batteries are fully-enclosed in an aluminum alloy. Batteries of the same type can be connected in series or in parallel. Desirable characteristics include high mechanical strength, resilience to impact and vibration during launch, high specific energy, long lifetime, wide range of working temperatures. The main characteristics of these batteries are (1) Very high specific energy, (2) Proprietary space cell design and processes and (3) Modular and flexible battery range. The benefits invlude (1) Excellent energy density and specific energy, (2) Hermetically-sealed cells, and (3) Long cycle life: 18 year GEO at 80 % DOD 48000 LEO cycles at 20 % DOD.
