Key highlights

Acktar's Vacuum Black™ Coatings offer high emissivity and very low reflectance in EUV—UV and VIS-SWIR regions, usually for straylight suppression.

They are used in a wide variety of applications, including various areas of space opto-mechanics.

Vacuum Black™ Coatings can be effectively applied on ceramics, polymers, metals, and glass surfaces - in thicknesses of just a few microns (3-7µm).

They ultra high vacuum (UHV) compatible, inorganic, and have very low outgassing (CVCM of 0.001% and RML of 0.2%).

Mission highlights

This product has been used in the following key missions:

  • Arctic Weather Satellite - an ESA mission to improve global weather forecasting capabilities.
  • Mars Sample Return (MSR) - an ambitious, multi-mission campaign to deploy robotic systems to Mars and return them to Earth. The objective is to collect samples of Martian rocks, soils and atmosphere for detailed physical and chemical analysis.
  • Sentinel 2A, 2B and 5 - a multi-instrument, multi-satellite mission program launched to perform adavanced imaging of Earth for land, ocean and atmospheric monitoring.
