Key highlights
ASTRO-BATT is a versatile and configurable battery module developed by Airbus Space for use in Low-Earth Orbits (LEO) to meet the requirements of both radar and optical missions – for up to 12.5 years in orbit. Supplied with ECSS Class 1 components, it is compatible with ESA missions.
Thanks to its ingenious design, the ASTRO-BATT module is available in three different voltage configurations – 30, 50 and 100 V – with the same mechanical design and can be installed inside or outside the spacecraft. Two mounting configurations
are proposed, either with direct contact between the module baseplate and the spacecraft panel, or with the
module insulated from the structure and equipped with its own radiator on top (radiator under customer responsibility or part of the ASTRO-BATT product).
The module is equipped with COTS lithium-ion cells, fully qualified by Airbus for Space applications and with flight heritage, allowing Airbus to propose a very competitive price.
ASTRO-BATT was successfully qualified mid-2024 and first FM units will be delivered in 2025.
