Key highlights

Axiom Station is a modular space station that will be assembled connected to the International Space Station (ISS), one module at a time, before detaching and operating independently.

Once Axiom Station is operating independently, additional modules can be designed, developed, and launched to dock with and expand the station in the future.

The current (as of January 2025) development roadmap is as follows:

  • Phase 1 - from 2026–2029/30: the 4 modules of the initial Axiom Station designed will be launched separately and attached to the International Space Station (ISS), or in free-flight, to begin testing and operations.
  • Phase 2 - 2030-2031: the team will carry out a transition phase to ensure the Axiom Station is fully operational independently.
  • Phase 3 - 2031 and beyond: further expansion will then be possible.

The first space station modules, with the first targeted for launch in 2026, are:

  1. Payload, Power, and Thermal Module - consisting of solar arrays and power management systems sufficient to provide operational power equivalent to that available on the ISS
  2. Hab One - including volume to support 4 crew members, along with some research and manufacturing capacity
  3. Hab Two - similar to Hab One and supporting the habitation of an additional 4 crew members
  4. Research and Manufacturing Module - a purely operational module

Once the 1st module is fully deployed, tested, and functional in orbit, Axiom Station will have everything required to operate independent of the ISS.
