Key highlights
GigRouter (GR-002007) is a high-performance onboard networking and compute module combining an NVIDIA AGX Orin processor with flight heritage. It provides 10-Gbps and 1-Gbps Ethernet interfaces, Kubernetes (K3S) orchestration, and compatibility with standard terrestrial networking protocols such as MPLS, IPv4, and IPv6. The unit has completed NASA GEVs thermal vacuum and vibration testing and supports GPU- and CPU-intensive workloads in vacuum environments. Its extensive interface set enables rapid integration with spacecraft avionics and payload systems.

Customization
GigRouter can be customized to support mission-specific networking configurations, custom interface mappings, and modified storage loads. Optional shielding thicknesses can extend radiation lifetime for MEO/GEO missions. Software customization includes container-based deployments, protocol configurations, and tailored AI/ML pipelines. Additional mechanical or thermal configuration changes may be available depending on mission profiles and would be quoted as non-recurring engineering (NRE) items.
Flight heritage
As of December 2025, two GigRouters are currently on orbit. One is on the ISS as a part of MISSE-21 and the other is on a commercial small sat mission in LEO. More details and announcements to come on these and (near) future flights!
Manufacturing
GigRouter is produced using a machined enclosure with an internal thermal-conduction path supporting high-power GPU and CPU operations in vacuum. The unit integrates space-ready power conditioning, high-density connectors, and extensive EMI/EMC-robust interfaces. Manufacturing processes support precise thermal management required for the NVIDIA AGX Orin compute module. The device is assembled and tested in accordance with high-reliability aerospace standards, including environmental workmanship consistent with NASA GEVS profiles.
Testing & qualification
GigRouter has successfully completed NASA General Environmental Verification Standard (GEVs) testing, including:
Random vibration testing
Thermal vacuum (TVAC) testing demonstrating GPU/CPU operation under high-temperature vacuum conditions
Thermal qualification demonstrates that at a base-plate temperature below 60 °C, the CPU remains below 75 °C at nominal 35 W power consumption. Radiation lifetime modeling is included for LEO, MEO, and GEO with optional shielding (as specified in the datasheet).
If additional MIL-STD-1540, ECSS, or customer-specific qualification data exists, it can be added later.
Radiation testing:
Board level GigRouter radiation testing was used to identify potential anomalies, event rates and calculate lifetimes for different missions.
Different sub-boards of the GigRouter were tested using 64 MeV protons to determine Total Ionizing Dose (TID) and Proton Single Event Effects (SEE) susceptibility.
The systems were tested in a flight-like operating condition, including appropriate loads and sensor telemetry. For each test, data errors, resets, spurious signals, and high current states were monitored and recorded as well as accumulated dose.
- No hardware suffered Destructive SEEs (DSEEs) from protons
- TID > 18 kRAD
Roadmapping underway to increase TID resilience.
