Key highlights

Gimbal Space EPS is a modular power system designed for CubeSats with each module capable of providing 75W of continuous power with 100W of peak input. These modules can be stacked to increase capacity.

This EPS features high capacity storage and is built for 5 years of mission life with full-output protection.

The EPS comprises of the battery pack and the Power Control and Distribution Module (PCDM), with the PCDM configurable to accommodate mission specific requirements. Each battery pack consists of 4S1P lithium-ion cell configuration with nominal capacity of 3500 mAh, providing a nominal voltage of 14.8 V and maximum voltage of 16.8 V. These modules are stackable and can be used to expand capacity.

The battery pack incorporates state-of-charge monitoring, controlled power isolation, and individual cell thermal monitoring.

The PCDM provides the required power control, distribution, monitoring, and system interfaces.

Communication interfaces include 1x UART over RS485 and 1x CAN, providing communication and control capabilities for integration with the spacecraft electrical and avionics systems.

Key features

  • Solar Array Interface: Supports up to 4x solar panel arrays, with integrated reverse-polarity protection for enhanced system robustness.
  • MPPT Configuration: Firmware-configurable Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) voltage, supporting 1U through 16U spacecraft configurations.
  • Ground Battery Charging: Dedicated USB-C interface enables convenient battery pack charging and servicing.
  • Battery Management: Integrated passive cell balancing for improved battery pack voltage uniformity and long-term operational reliability.
  • Protected Power
    • Output:6 A nominal continuous output current
    • 7.5 A over-current protection (OCP) threshold
    • Hard-short circuit protection: 3 µs trigger response
