One-Stop Space Qualification
Resonate is evolving into a one-stop shop for spacecraft component qualification. The facility can perform vibration, shock (including SRS and pyroshock), thermal cycling, and fire testing all under one roof, often in a single coordinated campaign. A Thermal Vacuum Chamber (TVAC) will soon be commissioned to simulate the vacuum of space and temperature extremes of orbit. This integrated capability allows satellite components to undergo vibration, shock, and TVAC testing back-to-back, streamlining schedules and logistics. Few labs in the UK or EU offer this breadth of service in one location, especially with the agility and personal attention of an SME.

Applications

JWST Launch Video System (Réaltra)

  • Shock & vibration qualification of the “VIKI” camera that captured JWST’s launch separation [Web Page D...nd Comment]. Resonate rapidly developed a bespoke shock test (using a cluster of sledgehammer heads) to replicate launch shock spectra, enabling local testing in NI during pandemic travel restrictions. This kept the project on schedule and ensured the camera survived the brutal launch environment.

ESA Lunar Pathfinder (EECL – NaviMoon)

  • Shock Response Spectrum (SRS) testing on the navigation receiver and low-noise amplifier for the Lunar Pathfinder spacecraft. Resonate’s team simulated the rocket launch forces to validate EECL’s design changes. The successful partnership meant the hardware was qualified without sending it outside the UK, and the components are ready to endure the powerful moon rocket ride

Ariane 6 & Vega-C Launch Vehicles

  • Vibration and shock testing of launch vehicle components for Europe’s new rockets. Resonate provided full environmental test campaigns to ensure these parts withstand launch conditions (high G vibration, stage separation shocks, etc.) Our work helped qualify hardware for Ariane 6 and Vega-C, contributing to their flight readiness.

Aircraft Engine Fire & Vibration.

Engine component qualification for a leading aerospace OEM, focusing on extreme conditions. Resonate conducted specialised fire and flammability tests (e.g. simulating jet fuel fires) on engine nacelle materials and mounts, as well as high-force vibration tests.  These tests supported the certification of a new aircraft model’s engine, demonstrating that critical parts could endure both severe thermal stress and continuous vibration in service.
