Key highlights
The ThrustMe I2T5 Cold Iodine Thruster is a turnkey propulsion system that has been designed for simple integration and use. The unit is platform agnostic and features embedded fail-safe modes, a patented pipeless design, and a radiation-hardened main controller. The I2T5 is designed for CubeSats and nanosats. The I2T5 is ITAR-free and does not have any high-pressure propellant tank.
The I2T5 is an non-pressurized, cold gas thruster that utilizes solid iodine propellant. It is fully integrated and standalone, and includes flow control, the power processing unit (PPU), propellant storage, and thermal management system. The iodine propellant is stored in solid form. During launch, the I2T5 is therefore passive and poses no explosion risk. Only once in space when power is applied does it sublimate to generate the pressures needed to accelerate the iodine gas through a micro-nozzle. The tank pressure during operation is much lower than 1 bar, so the I2T5 is safe for the satellite, even when firing.
The system is developed with a standardized architecture to reduce lead times and fits within a o.5U form factor. It achieved flight heritage in 2019 and is shipped pre-filled with propellant.
