Akash Systems, Inc., was founded in 2016 by Felix Ejeckam and Ty Mitchell. Based in San Francisco, California, USA, Akash is developing and supplying next-generation communications systems for satellites.

A core part of the company’s portfolio is based on the composite material gallium nitride (GaN)-on-Diamond, invented by Akash cofounder Ejeckam.

In this material the hottest part of a transistor is brought to within tens of nanometers of synthetic diamond – the most thermally conductive material manufactured. This results in a significant reduction in waste heat from the power amplifier, enabling the development of satellite systems with higher bandwidth and energy efficiency with lower SWaP requirements.
