Nakashimada Engineering Works, Ltd. and Tohoku University had jointly developed the de-orbit mechanism called DOM®.

Once mission operations for a satellite equipped with DOM® has been completed, a thin film preliminarily installed in the mechanism is deployed. It thus experiences atmospheric drag, resulting in the satellite entering the Earth's atmosphere.

In 2017, both the activation and the performance of the DOM® have been successfully confirmed through on-orbit verification using 'FREEDOM', a 1-unit size CubeSat.
