Solid State Propulsion (SSP) was founded on the idea that just as computers shifted from inefficient vacuum tubes to solid state transistors, so too will space propulsion systems shift from fluid-fuelled thrusters with heavy tanks and long warm up times, to completely solid state thrusters that can be manufactured and operated with semiconductor-style precision and reliability.
