Key highlights

The Arquimea HDRM REACT 5KN & DEM is a Hold-Down and Release Actuator Mechanism and a deployment mechanism for solar arrays, antennas, thrusters, reflectors.

The REACT is a low-shock Hold-Down & Release Actuator to firmly hold the payload during transportation and launch and also to release it later by electrical activation. The HDRM REACT features a redundant trigger with the option of two different motorization based on Shape Memory Alloys (TiNi and SMARQ). The system offers a wide actuation temperature and provides a manual reset capability to the user.

To avoid any potential damage to the structure, the REACT is integrated to the spacecraft using a cup-cone catcher to hold the deployable in the stowed position and to secure the main bolt after the release.

Arquimea’s DEM is based on two spring motorized hinges and is designed mainly for the solar array deployment in small-and mid-size satellites. The DEM enables the rotation of the deployable structure from the platform. A mechanical switch is included in each hinge to ensure proper deployment of the structure.

Applications

HDRM and DEM, together or separate, can be used for:

  • Solar arrays
  • Antennas
  • Booms and masts
  • Reflectors
  • Cover doors
  • Scientific instruments
  • Shutter mechanisms
  • Large structures
  • Launch locks for gimbals
  • Thrusters
  • Caging mechanisms

Key features

  • Low shock mechanism
  • HDRM manually field resettable by the end user. No refurbishment required
  • Redundant SMA trigger (two independent initiators) in the HDRM
  • Standard electrical interfaces compatablity
  • Cup-cone and hinges with misalignment, positioning deviation tolerance and inner self-motorization
  • Deployment mechanism with two spring-motorized hinges with latch on deployed position
  • Safety tooling to avoid deployment during AIV
  • Space-qualified parts and materials

Customization

Custom configurations for the complete solution are available under request. Adaptation for specific deployment angle and torque and different interfaces is possible. The following accessories can be procured apart:

  • Rod. Different configurations available
  • Screws for the REACT assembly to the spacecraft

Testing & qualification

Quality Levels

EM acceptance tests include:

  • Physical Measurements (envelop dimensions, mass)
  • Electrical Measurements (input resistance, grounding, insulation, dielectric)
  • Actuation Test (applied preload, voltage consumption and supplied current, deployment status)
  • Actuation Test with Redundant Initiator (applied preload, voltage consumption and supplied current, deployment status)

FM acceptance tests include EM acceptance tests plus:

  • Vibration (acceptance levels)
  • Thermal Vacuum Activation (actuation time, applied preload, voltage consumption and supplied current)

Arquimea's Quality Management System meets the requirements of UNE-EN 9100:2018 Aerospace Series and has been audited and certified by the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification, AENOR.
